Yellowjackets U12 Girls - NIHL Presidents Cup PeeWee Girls

After completing a perfect 16-0-0 season in NIHL, the Yellowjackets U12 girls now have their sights set on the NIHL Tournament Championship banner as well. The road to their next objective begins February 7th in the semi-final game against Wilmette, and continues the following weekend.

Girls’ Levels

Girls registering with Firewagon Hockey have the option of practicing and competing in the Yellowjackets Developmental Program (YDP) program or the Yellowjackets Girls’ Travel program which fields teams that compete in the Northern Illinois Hockey League (NIHL) or the Northwest Hockey League (NWHL).

Yellowjackets Developmental Program

Female players who wish to play in the YDP will placed on a co-ed, non-checking team focused on hockey skill development that is competitive for their level of play. These teams also can enroll in tournaments at additional cost. The tournaments will be determined by the team coach, with input from each participant’s family.

The competitiveness of the team will be determined by the team’s coach. No girl who wishes to play in the YDP will be excluded. Fun, team play, and learning will be stressed throughout this program which is completely aligned with USA Hockey’s American Development Model (ADM). Each player in the YDP will get approximately 50 home-ice touches that will be used for practices and games as well as special Skills Nights.

Yellowjackets Girls’ Travel Program (Tier II)

The Yellowjackets Girls’ Travel (YGT) program is for any female player who wishes to play at competitive Girls’ Travel Hockey levels. The Girls will compete in either the Northern Illinois Hockey League’s girls’ league or Northwest Hockey League, and in additional tournaments. The tournaments will be at an additional cost and will be determined by the team coach, with input from each participant’s family. In some cases, the leagues may not have sufficient teams to field a girls-only division. In those cases, the YGT team may play in an appropriate age, co-ed division on a no-check basis for all its league games.

The YGT program will be made up of players, of the same age divisions, who will be distributed on teams based on individual playing ability. Each player’s ability will be evaluated through tryouts, which will be held in mid-August. Girls who are not placed on a YGT team will have an option of enrolling in the YDP or Youth Travel B Hockey

program. Each player in the YGT will get approximately 80 home-ice touches that will be used for practices and home games.

In addition, the YGT registered girls also participate fully in all the practices and games of the Yellowjackets Youth Development Program. This is done to insure that all players are exposed to the same American Development Model training and Skills sessions. It also helps the girls raise their level of play as they train together with the boys in the organization.

For the 2009-2010 season players will fall into the following age classifications within the Yellowjackets Girls Travel Program:

·         U8 - birth years of 2001 and younger

·         U10 - 1999 and 2000 birth years

·         U12 - 1997 and 1998 birth years

·         U16 - 1993 and 1994 birth years

·         U19 - 1990 to 1992 birth years

In the 2009-2010 season the Yellowjackets have fielded three all-girls teams.

·         Yellowjackets U14 AA Girls play in the NIHL Bantam Girls Gold division

·         Yellowjackets U12 AA Girls play in the NIHL PeeWee Girls Gold division
