YELLOWJACKETS TIER II – MIDGET PROGRAM

2010/2011 PROGRAM DETAILS

Fire Wagon Hockey Inc. (FHI) is pleased to announce the Tier II – Midget Split Season Program for 2010/2011.

Tier II hockey represents USA Hockey’s second highest level of competition and the Yellowjackets’ program is set to attract the area’s most talented and dedicated youth players. The Midget structure is designed to complement the Yellowjackets’ other program offerings for a complete, simple structure for area players and their families to understand and participate.

Program Highlights – 2010/11 Split Season Initiative

Spring 2010

  • The 2010 Spring Developmental Program is open to high school age players (birth years 1992-1995) who want to train and develop in the off-peak season.
  • The spring training program will consist of 17 sessions, skating twice a week. Each session will consist of three hours of on ice skill development in a competitive, challenging, and fun environment. Small games and full ice scrimmages will be part of this advanced training program.
  • The spring program is limited to thirty players (26 skaters and 4 goalies) per classification U16 and U18. The Yellowjackets staff reserves the right to move players between sessions.
  • Only players that are participating in the spring program are eligible to try out for the Tournament team.  The Tournament teams will consist of seventeen players per classification (15 skaters and 2 goalies).

Fall 2010 Split Season Initiative

  • The primary goal will be to field the most competitive teams possible at the Tier II Midget level.
  • Teams will play a competitive tournament and independent exhibition game schedule.
  • For the 2010/2011 season, FHI is offering a split season program for Midget Major (U18) and Minor (U16) team(s).
    • Midgets 9/1/2010 through 10/31/2010
    • Midget Lite 11/1/2010 through 1/31/2011
      • will consist of a limited number of games, developmental practices under the American Developmental Model and tournaments.
    • Midgets 2/1/2011 through 3/31/2011.
  • The program will feature weekly player development sessions and two full weekly ice practices.
  • The fall Midget teams will be selected through a tryout process, following USA Hockey/AHAI guidelines.
  • The fall Midget team rosters will consist of 18-20 players (16-18 skaters and 2 goalies).
  • There will be a focus on increasing home game counts and minimizing travel as best as possible during the Midget Lite time frame.
  • The Midget Education Committee will provide parent and player hockey education activities and assignments, along with seminars on various important topics.
  • The number of Midget teams is dependent on player count and skill levels.
  • Fees for Midgets are dependent on player counts.
  • Fee ranges are based on 18-20 player rosters.
